“Mommy, I lost my smile … ” says this little boy while we were lying on the bed watching tv. He looked up at me with the most saddest expression on his face and I stared at him looking if he will smile. We gazed at each other’s eyes for about a minute and we both broke into laughter..
“Yay, my smile is back Mom ! “, says John with the biggest smile on his face.
You love to smile John, you’re a happy kid, and your smile will never be lost..

So we went to a store one time , I was busy choosing the things I needed and suddenly this little imp said ” Oh my God, what a big butt! “ referring to the woman beside me who’s “a bit” on the heavy side.
What’s a mommy to do in times like this? This is one of those moments when kids just say the darnedest thing and we wish they didn’t .
I was horrified but prayed that the big-butted lady beside me did not hear him. I didn’t even dared look at the lady but I went about my stuff like I really didn’t hear what he’d said. I so totally ignored him like he wasn’t with me and was relieved that he left and ran to his Dad. I don’t know if the lady turned to him or looked at him or whatever , I was so chicken to turn my head.
When we got home I reprimanded him ” Why did you say those words John? Don’t you know that you’re going to hurt her feelings if she heard you? Whatever you see, whatever you hear, or smell or anything , if you think you will hurt somebody with what you will say, please don’t say it. anymore. It’s not even cute, even if you think it is. ”
I guess he got what I was trying to say, now he doesn’t say a thing.
Kids, kids….

Mommy: John, Auntie Marivic said you look like your Dad!
John: Na-ah
Mommy: Yeah, you do look like your Dad. He’s your Dad so you are going to look like him in some ways.
John: Nooo… (looked sad, buried his face on the pillow and said… ) You’re not nice to me, Mom…
The poor thing just couldn’t accept it that I had to say, “Okay okay you look just like Johnrey..”

Last night , me and John were watching a shark-attack kind of movie that I’ve forgotten the title and I was also reading a book at the same time so I wasn’t really watching when suddenly John called out, ” Mommy, the shark ate the man! “.
I turned my eyes to the tv and saw the scene, I didn’t see anyone else on the screen and so I asked, ” well , who else saw him being eaten by the shark ? ” curious if there had been other characters during that scene.
And John replied , with eyes still glued on the scene, ” Me, it was just me” ..
The poor lone witness …

One day he must have gotten bored so he came to me and asked if we can play doctor. I said yes and he, with my earphones, put one earphone on my chest and he started..
” Okay, brief in, brief out. Brief in, brief out.. ”
He couldn’t say the “th” sound so he pronounces the “breathe” as ” brief “.
Of course this Mommy couldn’t help laughing again and he was laughing with me too.

While I was strapping him in his child car seat yesterday I told him , ” Okay you sit here ’cause I am going to sit there in front with Daddy okay ? ”
His answer, ” Okay Mom, and I will sit here with the chairs”. He meant the other two seats beside his car seat.
Yeah, and be good to the chairs.

When John can’t perfect anything, like constructing his toy blocks, or he can’t spell a word right like he missed one letter, he’d say , ” I QUIT! ” and would run to his room.
I would look at my husband when this happens and both of us can’t help but laugh. But thinking about it, I don’t want this boy to be quitting at every little thing that doesn’t go his way. So I thought I better get this attitude corrected before it gets out of hand.
One day we were playing and he was losing, I noticed he was sulking again, before he said ” I quit! ” I told him that in life, there will be a lot of things that will go wrong, and that he shouldn’t quit. He should always try and try till he gets it right. I don’t know if he understood it but I guess he did because now he would say, ” I will try again Mom! ”
Now I tease him, ” Are you gonna quit, John? ” and he said ” No, I will try again Mom. ”
Good boy!
